چکیده

Distributed Partial Mixing (DPM) is an approach to creating a distributed audio service that supports optimisation of bandwidth utilization across multiple related audio streams (e.g. from concurrently active audio sources) while maintaining fairness to TCP traffic in best effort networks. This paper extends our DPM prototype to include the application control of selector and database components of DPM as a necessary complement to purely network-driven DPM presented till now. In particular we introduce awareness driven and Interest Management driven DPM as one way of that smoothing out the effects of the network adaptation on the end user audio quality in Collaborative Environments.

Marvin: Supporting Awareness through Audio in Collaborative Virtual Environments

This paper describes Marvin, an awareness support agent written in Java. The system provides audio cues, text-to-voice and voice recognition, and currently operates as a bot in ActiveWorlds, an Internet-based, shared 3D virtual environment. The ActiveWorlds space was designed to facilitate chance encounters between members of distributed work groups, and Marvin was written to overcome the probl...

A Collaborative 3D Environment for Authoring of Design Semantics

In this paper we present MUG, a collaborative 3D environment to support knowledge-based conceptual design. This work integrates Computer-Aided and Collaborative Design methods with representation framework being developed for the Semantic Web. In this work, we have created a unique environment that allows a group of users, working together over the Internet, to create both a 3D layout and a kno...

A REAL-TIME AUDIO RENDERING SYSTEM FOR THE INTERNET (iARS), EMBEDDED IN AN ELECTRONIC MUSIC LIBRARY (IAEM)

The internet Audio Rendering System (iARS) is an Internet browser extension extending the browser’s capabilities with real-time signal processing. The proposed system allows to receive audio streams from the Internet and apply various audio algorithms with no additional computational power needed from the server. iARS is part of the Internet Archive of Electronic Music (IAEM) project which is a...
